Annie Leibovitz

Annie Leibovitz first discovered her interest for photography when she traveled with her mother to Japan. In 1970 she launched the Rolling Stone Magazine and became chief photographer. By 1974 the magazine started to print pictures in color which expanded her knowledge of how color prints effect photographs. In 1980 she shot the famous picture of John Lennon with Yoko Ono. This picture is well know because it was the last photograph taken of John Lennon. He was shot t hours later, but he made the cover of the Rolling Stone Magazine as he was promised. In 1983 Leibovitz wrote a book about her experiences and joined Vanity Fair. Her first museum show took place in 1991, which toured around the world. Today Leibovitz continues to do photography and shoot pictures of famous people. Just a couple of well known celebraties that she has done a photo shoot for are Demi Moore, Woopi Goldberg, Bruce Springsteen, Bill Gates, Brad Pitt, Ellen Degeneres and of corse, the one and only Miley Cyrus.

I think this photo of Miley Cyrus is interesting because this particular shoot for the Vanity Fair magazine ended up stiring up a lot of controversy in the media. Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana is supposed to be known as a role model for young girls and teens. This photo questioned her as a person and the choices that she chose to make. I find it ironic that the famous photographer that we were told to research was the same person that took these pictures that started a scandal and mix up in the media.
